Two weeks after leaving doubt hanging during the Paris Major, Alix Collombon finally confirmed his decision: his 8th title of French padel champion, picked up in Casa Padel Very close to Mulhouse last weekend, will be the last.

A personal choice, dictated by the international circuit

“Obviously, it’s a very personal choice, which is directly linked to my commitment to the international circuitI participate in all tournaments. Premier Padel, and that is more than ever my priority,” declared the 32-year-old Lyonnaise after her victory.

By imposing itself once again alongside Léa Godallier, facing Carla Touly and Jessica Ginier, Collombon confirmed that she had nothing more to prove in France. Since 2017, she has never lost a single match at the French Championships.

Alix Collombon ends her relationship with the French Godallier Padel Championships

We can say that it's not related to the difficulty of the matches. In fact, the majority of matches end quickly, except for the final where you have to be fully invested. "But the real problem is the back and forth, the fatigue, the stress of having to honor this status in less than optimal conditions when I have to be 100% on Premier Padel »

Collombon has already confided in the past that she wanted to take care of herself mentally and physically to remain competitive on the world stage. And it's almost a logical progression if you follow her thinking.

A clear objective: to reach a milestone

Today, Alix Collombon is the only one to participate in all the main draws of the circuit Premier PadelShe's the only one in a position to perhaps break down the wall that currently separates her from the very best players in the world. And we know that every detail counts at this stage.

Now ranked 26th in the world, Collombon wants to aim higher:
"To think that every week you generally lose in the second round against the same players is not easy. The competition is tough, young players are coming up, and your top 30 position is threatened."

For the Frenchwoman, the objective is clear: to cross the world top 20 milestone, a goal that she has been pursuing “for too long” and that she wishes to achieve without having any regrets.

Léa Godallier, now without a national partner

With this announcement, a direct consequence is emerging: Léa Godallier loses his historic partner at the French Championships. Together, they have won everything for five years, without knowing a single defeat.

The Polynesian could now be coveted by many French players, unless she too chooses to follow the same path as Collombon by focusing solely on the international circuit.

Although for now, the situation is different, since Léa is ranked 61st in the world. The situation seems different. The same for all French players. But we'll come back to this topic soon.

A door not completely closed

While this decision appears final for now, Collombon hints at a possible return once his international career is less demanding. A comeback that could then rekindle the flame of the French Championships and extend his impressive unbeaten run that began in 2017.

In the meantime, French padel will have to learn to reinvent itself without its national number 1 on the international scene.
