Johan Bergeron and Timéo Fonteny  did not disgrace themselves in their entry into the final draw of the  Newgiza P2 , but they bowed out to the 8th seed,  Juan Tello / Edu Alonso , at the end of a close match:  1/6 7/5 1/6 .

A frustrating start to the match

From the outset, the French were broken, but reacted immediately by breaking back after several opportunities.

In  tricky external conditions The skill gaps are narrowing. Bergeron and Fonteny opt for a game with a lot of lobs, disrupting the solutions of Tello and Alonso.

But despite numerous opportunities, they failed to capitalize on their crucial chances and were broken again immediately. A tough blow mentally: unforced errors piled up for the French side, while Tello grew in strength, gained consistency, and gradually took control.

Result: a first round that slips away  6/1 , despite a content that is tighter than it appears.

 A reaction full of character

The scenario repeats itself in the second set: an early break for the Spanish-Argentine pair.

The French create breakaway opportunities but fail to convert them… until  5/3 , the moment when Tello and Alonso serve for the match.

This time, Bergeron and Fonteny seize their opportunity and break back at the perfect moment. On the following game, they dig deep, saving a  spectacular match point , then they glue them back together.

This turning point changes everything: doubt creeps in for Tello, the French gain confidence, break back again and string together a series of points to finally snatch the set  7/5 .

Just when they seemed close to elimination, they completely reversed the dynamic and pushed the match into a third set.

 A one-sided third set

In the decisive set, Tello and Alonso clearly raised their level.

More intensity, more physical presence, and a Tello who is once again very impactful. The 8th seed tightens up the game.

The French suffer and logically bow down  6/1  in this final round.

There were positives despite the defeat.

Despite the elimination,  Bergeron and Fonteny can draw many positive lessons from this.  of this match.

They succeeded in  to shake up a top global pair to take a set from him and to show a very good level, especially in the second set.

Faced with the solidity and experience of  Tello / Alonso The challenge was still a bit high, but this first final table of the season is encouraging.

The French leave with:

  •  27 FIP points
  •  experience facing the very highest level
  •  confidence for the future

A benchmark match despite the defeat.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
