This is unexpected but exciting news: Brice Leverdez, an emblematic figure of French badminton, took his first steps on the FIP circuit when FIP Bronze Samui in ThailandAt 39 years old, the former French number 1 in shuttlecock is now trying his hand at padel, where he has just won his First 3 FIP points.
An impressive badminton CV
It’s difficult to talk about Brice Leverdez without recalling his incredible career. Thirteen international titles, nine consecutive French champion titles between 2008 and 2015, then in 2019, and above all resounding victories against one of the greatest players in history: Lee Chong Weis.
In October 2016, the Frenchman created a sensation by beating the Malaysian, then world number 1, then he repeated the feat in 2017, becoming the third European player in history to beat Lee Chong Wei multiple times.
French number 1 during 15 consecutive years (2008-2023), Brice Leverdez remains a living legend of his sport, and since 2012, he has also been ambassador of sport in the Paris region and the Olympics.
First steps on the FIP circuit
Aligned in qualifications of the FIP Bronze Samui, Brice Leverdez managed to qualify for the main draw. A remarkable performance for a first appearance on the circuit.
In the last 16, the Frenchman faced the seed 8 Tomita/Al ObaidlyDespite a great fighting spirit, Leverdez lost in the first round 6/1 6/3. But the main thing is elsewhere: he leaves Thailand with his first points in the FIP ranking (3 points) and a promising experience.
