Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto caused a surprise in Düsseldorf by winning the final of the Germany Premier Padel P2 against world number 1s Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia. After 1 hour and 36 minutes of play, the Spanish-Argentine duo won 7/6(7) 6/2, thus securing his second success of the season against the circuit leaders.

An almost unexpected victory

Before this final, the numbers spoke for themselves: Coello and Tapia led 6-1 in the 2025 head-to-head meetings et 16-6 overallThe two men were arguing over their 11th final of the year, the 9th in a row, without having conceded a single set since the Madrid P1 final. The ogre seemed unstoppable.

For Galán and Chingotto, the dynamic was very different. Regular finalists but often dominated by the number 1 duo, they had not lifted a trophy since their victory at theItaly Major in June, already against Coello and Tapia. The wait was beginning to weigh heavily on their shoulders.

A decisive tie-break

The first set set the tone: a very high-level arm wrestling match, Tapia and Coello broke at 2/2 before being unbroken at the worst possible moment at 5/4, the set concluded with a stifling tie-break that Galán and Chingotto snatched. The statistics confirm the balance: 48% of points won for Coello/Tapia against 52% for Chingotto/Galán.

This pivotal set turned the match around. In the second set, the number twos were able to accelerate, taking advantage of the opponent's rare weaknesses and converting. 43% of their break points against only 33% for Coello/TapiaResult: a clear 6/2 which sealed their victory.

Chingotto, imperial in the diagonal

As Benjamin Dupouy sums up: "I saw a monstrous Chingotto. He was more than up to par in the diagonal, he cornered Coello. Galán, as usual, monstrous on the smash, and for once it was them who won the important points. Tapia, on the other hand, was up and down with quite a few unforced errors."

This observation perfectly illustrates the match: Chingotto stifled Coello in the rallies, while Galán showed his power in key moments. On the other hand, Tapia alternated between strokes of genius and uncharacteristic errors, which weighed heavily on the outcome of the final.

Galán takes sole charge of the charts

This title has a special flavor for Alejandro Galán. With this victory, he becomes the active player with the most official titles (50), thus overtaking Agustín Tapia (49). He also signs his 16th trophy in Premier Padel, “slightly” approaching the Coello-Tapia duo (28 and 27 titles).

For Chingotto, it is also a deliverance: he holds the sad record for the greatest number of finals lost in Premier Padel (20), can finally enjoy a 10th career title alongside Galán.

This victory could give a major boost to the “Chingalán” pair. It reminds us of their potential to compete with the Coello-Tapia armada, and rekindles interest in the circuit in the final stretch of the season.

In Düsseldorf, Galán and Chingotto proved that they were not condemned to the role of eternal dolphins.
