The circuit Premier Padel made a stop this weekend at the foot of the majestic pyramid of Giza, in Egypt. A mythical setting for a final which saw two duos already victorious in Milan two weeks ago repeat their success: Alejandro Galán – Fede Chingotto in the men's competition, and Paula Josemaría – Ariana Sánchez in the women's competition.
With this new title, these pairs confirm their excellent form and remain in contention for the number one spot in the FIP world rankings at the end of this season. Their next big event? The World Pairs Championship in Kuwait, a major tournament offering 2,000 points to the winners — as much as a Major on the circuit.
A P2 tournament: fewer points, less winnings
The Newgiza Open is classified in the category P2, which is the lowest level of the circuit Premier PadelThis means a smaller prize purse and fewer points than the major events on the calendar. But victory remains valuable, both from a sporting and economic perspective.
The champions' bonus
By winning in the final, Galán-Chingotto and Sánchez-Josemaría each leave with:
- 600 points in the Race standings
- €25,500 per pairi.e €12 per player or player
A nice little windfall for a week spent on Egyptian soil.
What about the finalists?
The finalist pairs — Paquito Navarro – Jon Sanz and Alejandra Salazar – Martina Calvo — also leave with a significant, albeit smaller, prize:
- €25,500 per pairi.e €7 per player or player
This stage in the heart of the Egyptian desert confirmed the dominance of the two leading pairs of the moment, while keeping the race for the top spot more open than ever. Next stop: Kuwait for the Pairs World Championships, where the sporting and financial stakes will reach a whole new level.
Indeed, while the total prize money at Newgiza was just over €260,000, In Kuwait, we will cross the one million euro mark!
