Long plagued by doubt and hampered by physical setbacks, Javi Garrido has just experienced a pivotal moment in his season. In Egypt, at the NewGiza P2 tournament, The Andalusian secured a decisive victory alongside Lucas Campagnolo, overturning Juan Lebrón and Franco Stupaczuk in the round of 16..

This success is not just another result on the leaderboard: it's a signal. The smile has returned, and with it, the feeling of being competitive again.

An emotionally charged triumph

In recent months, Garrido has faced a difficult period. Injuries, a lack of confidence, and self-doubt have plagued his daily life. After this victory, he made no secret of his relief:

« I have suffered a lot, but I am beginning to reap the rewards of all these efforts. »

The Spaniard acknowledges that this victory is far more symbolic than simply advancing to the next round:

“Honestly, this means a lot to me, because I’ve had a very difficult year: injuries, lack of confidence, insecurity, a deep sense of unease… But, in the end, I see no other solution than to continue working day after day and to surpass myself each time.”

He also owes this return to the forefront to those around him, whom he made sure to thank:

« I would like to dedicate this title to my family, my partner, and my team, for their constant support, because in difficult times, they are the ones who are there.The truth is, I suffered a lot, but thank God, today we were able to enjoy life and reap the rewards of all those efforts.

The renewed rapport with “Campa”

Returning alongside Lucas Campagnolo after several years, Garrido was able to count on a committed and confident partner, even when everyone else doubted him:

“I want to sincerely thank Campa, because when no one believed in me – perhaps not even myself – I called him, I said “Campa”, and he replied: “Let’s go!“We played together many years ago, accomplished great things, and I take immense pleasure in playing with him, both on and off the court. He pushes me to surpass myself, and I am very grateful to him for that.”

Egypt, a land of rebirth

This isn't the first time Egypt has been kind to Garrido. A finalist last year, the Spaniard seems to be riding the wave of enthusiasm from the local crowd. He's even made it a bit of a personal tradition:

“Every time I come here, I only know two words in Arabic: Shukran (‘thank you’) and Yalla (‘let’s go’). So, every time I see someone, I say them, and people go crazy, they encourage me so much!”

Captivated by the tournament atmosphere, he concluded gratefully:

"The truth is, I love it: people are crazy about it, they live it with incredible passion. The affection and support they show us is extraordinary, and I am extremely grateful to them."
