Invited on the podcast of Padel Review Marta Ortega spoke at length about her new partner, Martina Calvo. At just 17 years old, the Pamplona native is already impressing the entire circuit. For the Madrid player, there is little doubt: the young Spaniard possesses all the qualities to one day aim for the world number 1 ranking.
A new gem that's causing a stir on the circuit
At 17 years, Martina Calvo She has already established herself as one of the rising stars of women's padel. The Navarrese player has quickly risen to the top despite her young age, displaying a maturity and personality that have not gone unnoticed. Her performances have rapidly attracted the attention of the circuit's leading figures. The world number 1 Gemma Triay had already praised her level after facing her at P2 of Gijón , While Sanyo Gutiérrez had not hesitated to call it "the biggest surprise of the whole year 2025".
The latest voice to be added to the praise is that of Marta Ortega who now shares the track with her.
"She has everything it takes to become number 1."
During his appearance on the podcast Padel Review The Madrid native did not hide her admiration for her young partner.
"I think she has all the factors to become number 1. And the most impressive thing is that she started very early. She's an extremely mature and very organized girl. She's always focused and she knows very well what she wants."
This perspective carries even more weight given that the Spanish player is acutely aware of the pressure associated with an early debut. In 2019, Ortega became the youngest number 1 in padel history , at only 22 years old.
The role of the "veteran"
In this new project, Ortega now takes on a different role: that of an experienced player. On the podcast, she explains that she has been thinking about how to pass on what she herself received when she was younger.
“We talked about how I could bring my experience to her. I greatly admire what Marta Marrero did with me a few years ago. If I had to follow an example, it would be her, like Carolina Navarro when she accompanied me to the World Cup. I try to bring her peace of mind, but she manages very well on her own.”
An association that came about naturally
For Marta Ortega, this new partnership comes at the perfect time. The Madrid native explains that this collaboration brings her a great deal both personally and professionally.
“I’m also learning a lot from her. We met at a very good time: I needed a new impetus, someone by my side who was hungry to win. It’s not a responsibility to support her; I’m really enjoying this experience.”
The connection between the two players was immediate.
"The connection was instantaneous. When we started training and playing matches, it felt like we'd already been playing together for a long time. We want to play at the same pace, with the idea of moving forward."
A promising start to the collaboration… and perhaps the first chapter of a story destined to make its mark on the circuit.
