At only 23 years, mike yanguas establishes himself as one of the most consistent players on the circuit this season Premier Padel. By Coki Nieto, he has already disputed nine semi-finals in fifteen tournaments and gets closer to the world top 3, currently occupied by Juan Lebrón and Franco Stupaczuk.
Smiling and aware of his progress, the Andalusian player confided in Diario Sport.
"We are in the ascending line"
Yanguas believes that he and Nieto are playing their best padel of the year:
"We're on the rise, playing at our best. I think we have a great end to the season ahead of us. I feel good on the court and I think I'm helping my partner in many facets of the game."
Compete with the elite… except Coello
The young Spaniard claims to be able to stand up to the circuit's benchmarks, except for one player:
"Lebrón was number one for four years, Chingotto and Di Nenno played many more finals and won more titles than me... but today I can compete with them as equals and even beat them. In Coello's case, the difference is still big: he's the one who makes the difference and the most dangerous to face in the diagonal."
Coki Nieto, an underestimated partner
Yanguas did not fail to defend his partner, whom he considers too often unknown to the general public:
"Coki is very fast and, contrary to what many say, aggressive. He shoots the ball at 3.000 km/h, runs like no one else, defends at a very high level and is making enormous progress in attack. Of course, he doesn't smash like Tapia, but for me he's a very complete player."
He also recalls his courage when he played several tournaments injured:
"He had the courage to play tournaments barely able to lift his arm. That says a lot about him."
Objective: to reach a milestone and win a title
For the end of the season, Yanguas sets the bar high:
"We're very close to the number three pair (Lebrón-Stupaczuk). They've widened the gap because we didn't play in Cancún, but today we're at the same level of play. I would be very happy to make finals in this last stretch of the season and win a tournament with Coki. We're a great team."
His dream shots
Finally, Yanguas did not hesitate to answer the “panenkita” question:
"I would steal Tapia's or Leo Augsburger's smash, because it makes the difference. And also Lucas Campagnolo's lob, which I love."
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
