Newly assured of finishing the year global 1 number with Arturo Coello, Agustín Tapia He arrives in Barcelona hungry for victory. The "Mozart of Catamarca" has lost none of his ambition, especially as he approaches a tournament that narrowly eluded him last season.

"To close out this incredible year by playing in the Finals is very special."

Tapia revealed this during the draw for the brackets, alongside Andrea Ustero:
"It's been a very long year, lots of tournaments, lots of travel... To close out this great year by playing in the Finals and with the number one ranking already secured is fantastic."
But one shadow still looms: the lost final of 2024, which he was "one point" away from winning.
"It has remained a major objective for this year. We're coming into this with a lot of enthusiasm."

Solid confidence, but a tricky picture

Coello and Tapia arrive with two consecutive titles, Dubai and MexicoBut Agus tempers this:
"If we look at the last few tournaments, confidence is high, but the Finals are different. These are the best pairs on the circuit, every match is very tough."

Their entry into the competition will be against Lucas Bergamini / Javi Leal, a recent but dangerous pair:
"Bergamini is an incredible fighter. And Javi is playing his first Masters; he's been one of the revelations of the year. They'll both be very motivated. It will be a very tough match."

An even more special edition: Tapia plays "at home"

Having lived in Catalonia for eight years, Tapia will be reunited with an audience he knows intimately:
“Playing the Masters in Barcelona is a reward for the whole year. It’s been my home since I arrived from Argentina.”
Local support that could prove important when the tournament heats up.

Number 1 in hand… but no letting up

Even if the main objective is achieved, the staff does not want any drop in intensity:
"I thought I'd take it more relaxed, but my trainer told me no, that the year isn't over. So we're still going all out. There's one week left."

Tapia admits it: the desire to take a break is there, especially with Argentina and his family in his sights:
"We're all really eager to go home. We live far away almost all year round, so our holidays are already planned."

A legendary pair in the making?

Coello and Tapia are racking up number 1 seasons, titles and moments of dominance.
However, Agus remains cautious:
“Without comparing ourselves to anyone, we’re making our own way. Padel is getting tougher and tougher, the circuit is very demanding. We’re working incredibly hard and trying to enjoy the process. We’ll go as far as the road allows.”

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
