This is one of the big stories of the week at  Cancun P2 .  Tolito Aguirre and Alex Arroyo  are putting on a benchmark performance, in a tournament where everything was open… and where they knew how to seize their opportunity.

A controlled quarter-final against Stupa and Yanguas

In the quarter-finals, they made a strong statement by eliminating  Yanguas / Stupaczuk , seeded 3rd, with a net score:  6 / 3 6 / 3 .

The match is one-sided in the important moments.  Aguirre and Arroyo set the pace They dictate the exchange and prevent their opponents from establishing themselves. On the other side, Stupa and Yanguas seem embarrassed, without a solution to the intensity and constant initiative.

This is not an isolated achievement. It is a confirmation.

Already a big win in the round of 16

Because their tournament had already taken on another dimension in the previous round. In the round of 16, they were eliminated  Paquito Navarro / Fran Guerrero  at the end of a solid match:  3/6 6/3 6/2 .

After conceding the first set, they ramped up their performance, gained the upper hand physically and mentally, and eventually broke their opponents' spirits.

In two matches, they therefore eliminated the  6th seed then 3rd seed A journey that speaks for itself.

A mixed start to the season

What makes this performance even more interesting is the context.

The start of the year was rather quiet for the pair. Eliminations in  Round of 32 matches in Riyadh P1 and Gijón P2 , with difficulty linking up. On the  FIP Tour , a few finals reached in Silver… but without a title to show for it.

A decent dynamic, but without any real reference to the very highest level.

 Cancun, the turning point tournament?

In Cancún, the scenario is different. Fast conditions, a series of surprises, the fall of several top seeds… and them, in the middle of all that, moving forward with confidence.

They are not just taking advantage of the situation. They are imposing something.

Aguirre brings his volume and creativity capable of shifting the balance of trade.
Arroyo, for his part, confirms his offensive impact. , becoming increasingly consistent at this level.

The result: an aggressive, liberated pair that plays well in key moments.

A massive challenge in the semi-final

To go further, they will now have to take another step. In the semi-final, they will face the  world number 1, Tapia / Coello .

A very different test. Less space, less time, and maximum demands on every point.

But given their level since the start of the tournament,  Aguirre and Arroyo arrive with real arguments .

A journey that can change everything

Whatever happens next, this week marks a turning point.

Beating two world-ranked pairs in a tournament Premier PadelThis is not insignificant. And in a system where the hierarchy is often rigid,  This type of course can change the trajectory of a pair .

In Cancún,  Aguirre and Arroyo are no longer just a dangerous pair in a match They are proving that they can exist for an entire week.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
