Just over two weeks after losing the World Cup final to Spain (1-0 after extra time), several key players from the Argentinian national team have traded the football pitch for a padel court. A video filmed in Ibiza, where some of the squad are spending their summer holidays, has quickly gone viral on social media in recent hours.
A holiday scene that went viral
It shows Enzo Fernández and Julián Álvarez facing off on the courts of Ibiza Padel Indoors. The most talked-about sequence shows the Chelsea midfielder celebrating a point with the intensity of an official match, under the dejected gaze of his teammate, huddled in a corner of the court. In other footage filmed the same day, Lisandro Martínez, Manchester United defender, is also playing a doubles match, against Álvarez and his partner.
The camaraderie shown between the three players illustrates the atmosphere that traditionally reigns within the Argentinian group during periods of rest, away from the pitch and club obligations.
Turning the page after New York
These images come as the schedule for the Argentine internationals looks particularly busy. After a demanding campaign that ended with the disappointment of the MetLife Stadium, the summer break remains short before the resumption of European leagues: Enzo Fernández is due to return to the Premier League with Chelsea, while Julián Álvarez will begin a new season with Atlético de Madrid, and Lisandro Martínez will return to pre-season training with Manchester United.
This context makes these few days of relaxation shared between national team teammates all the more precious, far from the disappointment of the missed title, a summer ritual now well established among Argentinians, who have gotten used to meeting off the field during the off-season.
Julián Álvarez's new mustache is also causing a stir
The Ibiza reunion had already made headlines a few days earlier when Enzo Fernández shared several photos of their vacation together on social media. One of the photos, taken after a game of trick (a very popular card game in Argentina), showed Julián Álvarez sporting an unusual moustache, which immediately sparked a wave of reactions and humorous comparisons from fans, many of them evoking characters from movies or TV series.
Between good times shared and details that amuse the Web, these Ibiza holidays confirm, once again, the solidarity and good humor that unite the Argentinian internationals off the field, despite the disappointment of a world final lost against Spain.
