In this second episode of Alix, Beyond the Glass, Alix Collombon It reflects on what it means to be among the first to blaze a trail. Not arriving after, following an existing model, but starting without reference points, when the circuit was still largely dominated by Spanish and Argentinian players, and few alternatives seemed possible.
At a time when the FIP circuit didn't yet have its current structure, Alix chose to settle in Spain, changing her culture, language, and lifestyle, and embarking on a project built on uncertainty. Stepping outside her comfort zone to pursue an international career, with no guarantee of success, became a real gamble. Over time, this choice established her not only as a regular player on the circuit, but also as a leading figure, sometimes perceived as "Spanish" by the industry, so complete was her integration.
The episode also addresses the notion of role models, which we sometimes accept without seeking them out. It's about showing that it's possible, simply through one's own journey. Alix discusses the importance of role models for young players, and the responsibility that comes with it: embodying the professionalism, discipline, and commitment necessary to succeed at the highest level.
More Beyond the Pitch It's not just about the outward image. It delves into the reality of a top-level career, marked by recurring doubts, constant questioning, and an ever-present mental challenge. How do you cope with a frustrating defeat, a victory under pressure, or a big match lost despite a strong performance? How do you keep moving forward without imposing a perpetual obligation to achieve results, but while demanding the maximum from yourself at every moment?
Alix also speaks of the perspective she's gained over time. Less focused on the immediate task at hand, she has a clearer understanding of her journey, her goals, and what she truly controls. This maturity is fully revealed when she talks about Roland-Garros. A place steeped in memories, emotions, and history, and a unique event in the season. For a French player, the desire to perform there is different, more personal, almost visceral.
Episode 2 paints a portrait of an athlete who progresses methodically, embraces the demands of elite competition, and continues to train with the same rigor, regardless of the stakes. It's a trajectory built on choices, total commitment, and the ability to endure.
