The end of the season came to an abrupt halt for Diego Gil, player originally from Las Palmas and currently 121th in the world, victim of an injury during the Acapulco Major qualifying finals. Next to Mariano Agustín, seeded No. 6, the pair were nevertheless leading 3/0 facing the number 1 qualifying duo, Manuel Castaño / Flavio Abbate, at the time of the incident.
