The story was beautiful, but it ends in the eighth grade. Adrien Maigret and Olivier Guy de Chamisso logically bow 6/2 6/1 against José Jiménez and Maxi Sánchez Blasco, in a match where the intensity of the opponents ended up stifling the two Frenchmen.

A promising start before the storm

It all started well with a entry station wagon for the Tricolores, carried by a public still conquered by their exploits of the previous days. But behind, Jiménez and Sánchez Blasco raise the tone. More aggressive, more precise, they immediately regain control of the game and continue six games in a row to win the first set 6/2.
The French are overwhelmed by the speed of execution and the quality of their opponents' volleys, who multiply long rallies and force mistakes.

An unplayable Spanish-Argentine duo

The second set started with the same pattern: the French hung on, but Jiménez's power on the smash et the solidity of Maxi Sánchez make the difference. Olivier and Adrien try to vary things, but end up cracking under the constant pressure.
The stats table is clear: 20 unforced errors on the French side, against only 5 for their opponents. The match ends with a 6/1 finish.

An invaluable experience

Despite the defeat, it is difficult not to salute the exceptional performance of the French-French pair, who scored three notable victories in Lyon. By eliminating the seeded 1, Then 7 of the qualifications, before beating in the last 16 Jensen and Chamero, ranked in the world top 70, Maigret and Guy de Chamisso have left their mark.

Only at 16 years, Olivier comes out of this tournament stronger.

"It was a first at this level. Obviously a little disappointed, but what an experience. Adrien has more experience than me, he's played in Roland Garros and other big tournaments, so I'm learning."

His partner, however, keeps smiling:

"The conditions were different, we had to adapt. They played harder than us, but we took away the positives. I really enjoyed playing with Olivier. If I can be a part of his progress, even for a short time, it's a real joy."

A founding adventure

With this round of 16, Olivier Guy de Chamisso almost doubles his FIP points capital, going from 13 to 38 pointsBut beyond the ranking, it is the experience gained against world-class players that is worth its weight in gold.
In Lyon, the two men will have embodied the beautiful tricolor surprise of the tournament. A generational pair, between the experience of Adrien and the freshness of Olivier, which proves that French padel has a bright future ahead of it.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
