It's impossible to escape the question: what is the best pair of shoes of the modern era? Today, the great dominators are called Arturo Coello et Agustín TapiaBut before them, padel vibrated under the influence of Alejandro Galán et Juan Lebrón, a duo that redefined the rules of the game. And inevitably, the comparison resurfaces.
Invited to a relaxed discussion on the channel Twenty Ten, next to Paquito Navarro et Rodri Ovide, Miguel Lamperti delivered a frank analysis of this imagined duel for the world number one spot.
“I see it as 50/50”
For Lamperti, there was no crushing of one over the other. Just an extremely close contest.
According to him, with a Lebrón fully recovered, Galán in his prime, facing a duo Tapia / Coello At the peak of its connection, the difference would be minimal.
His conclusion is clear: a completely balanced duel, with a slight, almost symbolic advantage for the current number 1s, solely thanks to their alchemy.
Lebrón / Galán, the architects of modern padel
Beyond the numerical debate, Lamperti was quick to point out the structural impact of the Spanish duo on the game:
Lebrón and Galán changed the padel. Their aggressive, direct style, based on constant risk-taking, profoundly influenced an entire generation. “Today, everyone wants to play like them,” the Argentinian points out, admiring but clear-sighted.
This paradigm shift is reflected in the game of today's young players, who are more direct, more explosive, sometimes less patient, but formidably effective in today's padel.
Two generations, two visions
Paquito and Lamperti, figures from another era, themselves acknowledge this evolution. Where their generation valued every ball, the new generation accepts constant risk-taking, driven by a logic of offensive efficiency. A philosophy summed up simply: as long as the results are positive, nothing else matters.
Lamperti even mentions Leo Augsburg, a symbol of this modern padel: spectacular, unpredictable, sometimes confusing, but terribly effective.
An imaginary duel… but fascinating
Today, if the statistics lean in favor of Tapia / CoelloThe question remains open on the pure playing field.
Galán / Lebrón at their peak, in a healthy context, facing Tapia/Coello in full confidencewould undoubtedly offer one of the most intense duels in the modern history of padel.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
