This was undoubtedly the most anticipated pairing on the women's circuit. Starting with the P1 tournament in Pretoria, Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernández will play together. Two of the brightest young talents in world padel are finally joining forces after a start to the season marked by mixed results with their respective partners. This partnership is already generating enormous expectations. 

An obvious fact that finally becomes clear during the season

Their union seemed inevitable.

From the very beginning of the season, at a time when the women's circuit was undergoing a profound restructuring following the separation of Ari Sánchez  et  Paula Josemaría many were already imagining  Martina Calvo  et  Claudia Fernández  united under the same colors.

Ultimately, each had made a different choice. The woman from Navarre had turned to  Marta Ortega while Claudia Fernández had decided to continue her progression alongside  Sofia Araújo .

A logical choice on paper.  17 years  for Martina and  19 years  For Claudia, playing with experienced players could represent a form of security to continue to grow, both in terms of the game and the experience of the very highest level.

Two projects that never really took off.

However, the results never fully met expectations.

Claudia Fernández and Sofía Araújo did indeed reach the final of the  P2 of Valence  and have regularly reached the final four of tournaments. Meanwhile, Martina Calvo and Marta Ortega seemed stuck at the gates of the semi-finals.

Early eliminations of  Valladolid  then  Bordeaux   have finally accelerated the decisions.

In an interview with  Brand  At the start of the season, Claudia Fernández had revealed that she had already contacted Martina Calvo about playing together in 2026. At the time, the young Spaniard preferred to continue her development alongside Marta Ortega. This time, the response was different.

Youth takes power

This new association undoubtedly brings together  two of the greatest talents in women's padel today .

Despite their young age, the two Spanish players have already proven they have more than enough skill to compete with the best in the world. Their explosiveness, their ability to speed up the game, and their personalities on the court make them two exceptional players.

One question remains:  Can this project bring them closer to the top of the world rankings? 

For now, they remain some way behind the three pairs that dominate the circuit. Their season has alternated between flashes of brilliance and more difficult periods. Capable of upsetting the best in a single match, they have, however, lacked the consistency to establish themselves as long-term contenders for titles.

What if they had had to play together as early as January?

This is inevitably one of the questions raised by this announcement.

In hindsight, many will wonder if  Martina Calvo  et  Claudia Fernández  They wouldn't have saved any time by joining forces at the start of the season. Their respective projects with Marta Ortega and Sofía Araújo never truly found their rhythm, despite some impressive performances.

This separation ultimately resembles an admission:  the two projects were no longer working .

Rather than being stubborn, the two young Spanish women chose to join forces at a time when they were both going through a period of doubt.

The most anticipated pair of the coming months

From  Pretoria P1 Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernández will form the  pair n°4  of the rank.

At the same time,  Marta Ortega  et  Sofia Araújo  will also join forces and begin as  pair n°5 , a partner swap that avoids a real domino effect on the circuit.

Behind the scenes, the competition continues to organize itself with  Tamara Icardo / Claudia Jensen , now established among the most dangerous pairs after their title in Bordeaux, but also the new associations  Marina Guinart / Alejandra Alonso  et  Alejandra Salazar / Zazu Osoro who will make their debut as early as the  P1 of Malaga .

One thing is certain :  Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernández will be the most closely watched pair in the upcoming tournaments. Their potential is immense. It remains to be seen whether this alliance will allow the two Spanish women to reach a new level… and, in the long term, get closer to the top spot in the world rankings.
