We're doing the same thing again. Just like in  Miami P1 , the women's final of  Newgiza P2  opposed the  world number 1 Gemma Triay / Delfi Brea  French  world number 2 Bea González / Paula Josemaría .

And once again, it's the  world number 2  which are essential, at the end of a  monumental battle lasting over 3 hours  :  6/4 5/7 6/4 .

Josemaría turned the first set around

The start of the match, however, was in favor of Triay/Brea, who broke serve immediately and quickly took the lead.  3/1 .

But little by little,  Paula Josemaría is gaining momentum  and takes the lead in the diagonal against Delfi Brea, who is struggling and less sharp than usual.

González / Josemaría continue:

  • debreak
  • break
  • then a break immediately afterward

They win the first set  6/4 , by clearly gaining the upper hand.

 Triay/Brea snatch the second set

In the second set, the momentum remained with the world number 2s.

Josemaría is impressive.  MVP of the match Extremely effective at the net and at the block. González/Josemaría break serve early and seem to be cruising towards victory.

But at  4/3 Reaction from the number 1:

  • white break
  • renewed intensity
  • more energy

À  5/5 Doubt crept in for González/Josemaría, who made more mistakes. Triay/Brea took advantage and snatched the set.  7/5 , against the run of play.

 A breathless third set

González / Josemaría come back strong with a  double entry break .

But Triay/Brea adjust their tactics:

  • They are targeting Bea González more, who is less fresh
  • they gradually return

Result: return to  3/3 .

The end of the match becomes a  mental arm wrestling , with exchanges of breaks. At  4/4 González remains solid despite the fact that the game is heavily oriented towards her, which allows her team to break.

Behind,  González / Josemaría finally get their game plan  to conclude  6/4 .

 A mental victory

Despite a sometimes disjointed match, the world number 2 players managed to make the difference:

  •  60 winning shots against 49
  • which has  many unforced errors (57)

They obtain  14 break points (5 converted) but especially in the key moments of the first and third sets.

On the other side, Triay/Brea were very effective ( 6 breaks out of 8 opportunities ), but not always at the right time.

 The 2026 rivalry has begun.

With this victory,  González / Josemaría take the lead in the head-to-head matches (2-1)  and follow with a  second consecutive title  after Miami.

Clearly, a rivalry is emerging:

  •  Triay / Brea leaders but under pressure
  •  González / Josemaría , in full rise to power

In the Race standings, the gap is narrowing considerably.

 On to Brussels for confirmation

The world's number 2 players confirm their progress after an inconsistent start to the season.

Next step: the  Brussels P2 , to see if this dynamic continues… and if the global hierarchy can shift.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
