Even though she lost her world throne, Paula Josemaría remains one of the great references in women's padelAt 28, the Spaniard remains determined to regain first place in the world number 1 Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, which are around 3,000 points ahead of it. Before the Newgiza P2, "Dynamite” confided in BRAND to discuss his season, his state of mind and his end-of-year goal.

"I didn't take losing number 1 as a negative thing."

After several seasons at the top, Paula has lost her crown, but not her energy. Far from being dejected, the Moraleja player sees it as a additional source of motivation :

"It's hard, yes, but I didn't take it as a negative thing, on the contrary. I believe it will make me better. It forces me to continue to improve."

Aware of the road ahead to regain first place, she approaches the final straight with serenity and desire:

"I want everything that comes, regardless of whether we finish first, second or third. The important thing is to continue growing."

A decisive end to the season

With again five tournaments to play, Josemaría and Ari Sánchez know that everything is possible. New Giza P2 offers them a golden opportunity, since neither Triay / Brea nor González / Fernández are present.

"There are still a lot of tournaments and a lot of points to take. It will be difficult, because they will give everything, but I think it will be very close. We will fight until the last match."

The Spanish pair hope to extend their good dynamics, after three very solid tournaments, before aiming for the two major events: the World Cup in pairs in Kuwait and Major of Mexico. If they win these two stages, the duo could reach Barcelona with the number 1 spot at stake.

A solid season despite everything

Despite losing the throne, Paula pulls a very positive assessment of his season :

"For me, it's been a very good year. I've rarely played below seven out of ten. It's been a season full of learning, and it's not over yet."

She also praised the performances of her rivals:

"Gemma and Delfi deserve a lot of credit. To be number 1, you have to do things very well. I know what that takes."

“With Ari, it’s been pure happiness for five years.”

AlongsideAri Sánchez, Josemaría forms today one of the most stable duos on the circuitTogether for five seasons, the two Spaniards have gone through the ups and downs without ever breaking up:

"Ari is happy to play with me, and so am I. Five years is a long time; we've learned to reinvent ourselves and understand each other better. It's a special relationship, based on trust and complicity."

Ambition intact

With the same rage to win and renewed motivation, “Dinamita” approaches this end of season with a clear idea:

"I want to give everything to regain this throne. I feel good, confident, and ready to fight to the end."

The tone is set: Paula Josemaría has not said her last word, and the battle for the world number one spot promises to be electric until the end of the season.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
