The men's quarter-finals of the Rotterdam P2 offered two very different scenarios. On the one hand, Agustín Tapia / Arturo Coello had to fight to avoid the trap Tino Libaak / Gonza Alfonso . The other, Lucas Campagnolo / Momo González pulled off the biggest coup of the day by knocking out Paquito Navarro / Martín Di Nenno (TS4) .
Libaak / Alfonso make the number 1s doubt themselves
During the Paris Major Tapia/Coello had largely dominated Libaak/Alfonso. But in Rotterdam, the scenario was clearly not the same.
The Argentinians arrived with much more confidence after notably eliminating them in the round of 16 Fran Guerrero / Javi Leal (TS7) , recent winners of the FIP Platinum Lyon .
And you can feel it from the very first set.
Libaak and Alfonso played freely, took the initiative, and managed to outmaneuver the world number ones. Result: 6/4 for Argentines.
For Tapia/Coello, a reaction is needed.
The number 1s are back on track
From the second set onwards, the Spanish-Argentine pair gradually increased their level of play.
More solid in the exchanges and especially much more effective when she manages to take the net, she begins to regain control of the match.
Tapia/Coello reunite with a 6/3 , then confirm in the decisive set with the same score.
Final victory 4/6 6/3 6/3 .
Not their most comfortable match, but the world number 1s avoid the trap and will be present in the semi-finals.
Campagnolo/González bring down the TS4
And their next opponent will be far from the one that one might necessarily expect.
Momo González / Lucas Campagnolo (TS8) created a sensation by eliminating Paquito Navarro / Martín Di Nenno (TS4) : 2/6 7/6 7/5 , After 2h49 of combat .
However, the match seemed to be off to a perfect start for Navarro / Di Nenno.
The 4th seed easily wins the first set 6/2 and seems to be continuing the momentum of its recent weeks.
But Momo/Campa don't give up.
They snatched the second set in a tie-break. 7 / 6 (1) , before turning the tide in a very close third set 7/5 .
A big upset against a confident pair
The performance is all the more interesting because Navarro / Di Nenno arrived with genuine certainties.
Since their new partnership, the two players have consistently reached the semi-finals and were most recently on a run of... semi-final at the Paris Major .
In Rotterdam, they therefore had another opportunity to go far.
But Campagnolo / González withstood a difficult start before completely turning the game around.
Second semi-final together
This victory offers Momo González / Lucas Campagnolo their second semi-final together , after the one obtained at Major of Rome .
An association capable of causing a lot of damage when it manages to impose its rhythm, with a Campagnolo that is always aggressive and a Momo capable of covering a lot of ground.
This time, the challenge will be even greater.
They will find Tapia / Coello for a place in the final.
The world number ones will inevitably start with the advantage, but after seeing Libaak / Alfonso take a set from them et Campagnolo / González knock out the 4th seed This semi-final could be much more open than it looks.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
