The president of the Basque Padel Federation, Jorge Penin, analyzes the importance of celebrating an event like the European Championships. The competition of the FEPA will be marked by the presence ofEuskadi -the selection of the Basque Country-, and by the absence of large nations.
“FEPA is the competent body”
“We are proud to be able to organize a European Championship of Senior National Teams. We believe that we have experience thanks to the work of a large group of people in the federation, and also thanks to people like Julio Alegría who created the Bizkaia Padel Federation, the first to be recognized at the global, Spanish and international level.”
“With Alfonso Uncío, the first president of the Basque Federation; Where Alfredo Garbizu which created the European Federation (FEPA) three years ago, we believe, unlike the Spanish Federation, that FEPA is the competent body for the development of padel in Europe. It works so that padel continues its upward trajectory and is not absorbed by other federations.”, expresses the current president of the Basque federation.
Euskadi v Portugal
As we know, the majority of the teams chose to participate in the FIP European Championships in Marbella a few months ago. If, in terms of the level of play, the Euro of the FIP has a good lead, on the organizational level FEPA and the Basque federation can only do better. We should also see a good opposition between Portugal and the Basque selection, which replaces the Spanish team.
“We will have fourteen men's teams and nine women's teams. There will be a good level of padel, but in the future it will be even better, because they are countries that are developing and doing things well. Then, Portugal comes with many very strong players who participate in the competitions of the World Padel Tour. Against Euskadi, we will see some very beautiful and contested matches. You will be able to see the spectacular nature of the sport. ”

“We have a sporting vision and now we have committed to FEPA because we believe it is the best way to develop padel in Europe. It has given us the opportunity to participate with the Basque national team and we are proud to be part of this European championship. We will see what happens next. We will move forward step by step and do what is best for our sport”, concludes Jorge Penin.
Note that Monte Carlo International Sports has become a partner of the event, and that Fabrice Pastor, president of the APT Padel Tour, will be there with the Monegasque selection.
