In the second women's semi-final of the Dubai P1, we will have Gemma Triay – Delfi Brea, the number 1 seed, facing Claudia Ustero – Sofía Araújo, seeded No. 4, for a place in the final of the Dubai P1A semi-final that pits two very different dynamics against each other, but whose sporting and financial stakes could weigh heavily in the rest of the season.
Triay and Brea arrive with their characteristic regularity: nine titles in 2025 and an impressive statistic of 17 semi-finals played since the creation of their duo. They have won 14 of these matches, and only let three slip away. Facing them, the Ustero-Araújo pair has a more mixed record: nine semi-finals closest eight defeats at this stage. Their only qualification for the final had been crowned with a title, at Bordeaux P1There are already ten tournaments.
Historically, the advantage clearly lies with the number 1s: the head-to-head record shows a 4-0 for Triay / BreaPrevious examples in Dubai confirm this trend: in 2024, Delfi Brea, then partnered with Bea González, had won the final against Claudia Ustero, who was playing with Carla Alonso at the time. In that 2024 edition, Brea emerged as champion, Triay reached the semi-finals, Ustero the final and Araújo the quarter-finals.
This semi-final also has direct consequences on the standings:
- Usterus must defend 90 points.
- Araújo loses 360.
- Triay must defend 600 points.
- Brea defends 360.
All of them will score the points they obtain today, an accounting issue that can influence the top of the hierarchy.
A clash of contrasting trajectories: on one side, a number one pair that has been progressing with consistency and efficiency; on the other, a talented duo that hasn't reached a final since Bordeaux. The Dubai P1 tournament could well shake things up.
The semi-final is starting now. Stay tuned.
